Greetings Blarneyballers,

The 2010 Blarneyballers tournament season reached the approximate halfway point, with the fifth of 11 events taking place in the form of the NCGA Net-Am Qualifier June 12th at Mare Island.  Twenty players competed with the top two finishers earning the right to represent the Club in the NCGA Associate Club Net-Am qualifier on September 9th.  The combination of variable, gusty winds and a generally tough layout resulted in only one player getting into red numbers on the par-70 course.  Bill Seim shot an outstanding net-68 to take first place honors. Joining Bill in qualifying to represent the club will be Kevin Boller, thanks to his second-place finish with net-71.  Hal Taylor and Mike Sanchez tied for 3rd with net-73's.

The NCGA Senior 4-Ball Qualifier was played in conjunction with the Net-Am Qualifier at Mare Island.  Bill Seim also took top spot in that one (chalk one up for the "age is a state of mind" movement).  Miguel Segura took second spot with a net-74 and Mike Harrison was third with net-83.  As Miguel will not be available for the qualifier, Mike will join Bill in representing the club as a two-man team.  Congratulations and good luck to Bill, Kevin and Mike in the NCGA qualifiers!!

Next order of business is to update the Cutthroat Match Play action.  In one half of the bracket, Dermot Burke defeated Kieran Buckley 4&3 while Mike Sanchez defeated Kevin Boller 3&1 to set up the first semi-final match. Dermot then handled Mike 2-up to claim a spot in the finals. In the other half of the bracket, David Hoxsey defeated Jimmie Neely in 19 holes to grab a spot in the semi-finals. He awaits the winner of the match between Kip Duarte and Greg Morgan.  Stay tuned for updates as further matches are completed.

Allow me to take a minute to suggest the revival of an old Blarneyballers tradition: "the wearing of the green."  Simply put, in keeping with the Blarney nature of the club, this means making an effort to mix some green into your outfit for Blarneyballer tournaments.  Hats, shirts, shorts or slacks..whatever you have.  Hopefully Jimmy Galvin will be gracing us with his sweet green shoes to set the standard!

By the time you receive this newsletter, it will be too late to enter the Blarney Memorial Tournament.  Results from that event will be sent out in the August installment.  The next tournament up will be the John Kelley Classic.  If you are only going to play one event this year, this is the one to play. Dinner will follow the tournament at Legends at Bennett Valley, open to golfers and non-golfers alike.  See below for details on this event.

Cheers,
Mike Sanchez
